A new bodega was announced yesterday at a ceremony at the Consejo Regulador:
Bodegas Urium
Article in the local Diario de Jerez here.
I don’t think a new bodega has started up in Jerez for a good few years, and considering the current climate this is interesting news. They must be pretty brave (and I hope they have deep pockets)!
Urium is an initiative of the Ruiz family from Moguer in Huelva province. The bodega will be situated at a site in calle Muro and they have already assembled 500 butts of very old wine. Bodegas Urium plan to specialise in age-dated (VOS and VORS) sherries marketed under the brand “Mons Urium” – the Roman name for Moguer.
Good on them!
